Life in Mozambique general Review! Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in Africa and life is not that easy at all, transport, water,Heath facilities being some of the problems that we find difficult to live by.
Mozambique is the name of both a country and of this small island located in its Northern part. The island was Mozambique’s first capital, which was moved in 1898 to Lourenço Marques (today’s Maputo), in the Far South.
But we are accustomed to it and we live happily well this way. When we have money in our hands,we can do whatever we want in that country.
I assume the person who asked this question is not Mozambican and have never been in Mozambique before,so to answer your question, life in life Mozambique is good and well lived by its population but the country is poor and its population is also poor,so you as a visitor will be well welcomed and well served,we are good, friendly and lovely… Just go there if you wish to,you will learn a lot there.
Obviously, nowadays, life has improved immensely since 1985 but, still, Mozambique day to day life is hard for its citizens. But the country is also growing fast, some issues are being solved and it’s probably one of the more open minded country in Africa… Hope of a brighter future is there and you can feel it everywhere.
I have to add that for lucky Western visitors to Mozambique (like myself) with some money in their pocket, Mozambique is probably one of the best hidden paradises on earth: fantastic landscape and nature, charming population, excellent food (seafood in particular), marvelous cities which you’ll hardly find the equivalent in the continent, impressive heritage, etc. I only wish to all Mozambican citizens to be able one day to enjoy their country as much as a Western visitor is able to do it nowadays.
My focus will be on Maputo, The country’s biggest and wealthiest city. As a foreigner, you’re more likely to live in this place than any other place. Maputo city is generally safer, But it's important to observe the common safety measures that you would follow in many cities in Africa. Like avoid wearing some expensive jewelry, don’t flaunt your wealth, Try to avoid going to low-income neighborhoods without a local.
Apart from that, Learning Portuguese will be very helpful as the majority of the residents of Maputo hardly understand even some basic English. Corruption is high, so you should prepare to give out some $$ to them.
However, Maputo is a beautiful city and a famous tourist destination for beach lovers as it has a wide range of beaches that are well reserved and not crowded at all, You will definitely a good time if you want a short vacation.
According to my research Mozambique is also famous for the quality of its fresh seafood. The Portuguese influence is felt in dishes such as Peri-Peri (hot and spicy) Prawns and Peri-Peri Chicken.
Another special information is that,Mozambique has some of the most pristine dive sites in the world. The reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago are home to over 1200 species of marine creatures including the rare Dugong.
